The Dr. SSNPS Library
Reading is the habit that supports every other subject. The Dr. SSNPS library gives students a large, calm space to read, research and borrow, and the timetable makes sure every child uses it.
The collection
The library holds more than 25,000 books: reference works, prescribed texts and popular fiction for every age. It also carries:
- Newspapers and magazines
- Reference materials for projects and research
- Kindle e-readers
- A digital library that students can use 24/7
- Desktop computers for research
- CDs and DVDs
How students use the library
- Library periods: classes visit the library during timetabled library periods to read, borrow and learn how to find information.
- DEAR (Drop Everything And Read): at set times the whole school stops what it is doing and reads, students and teachers alike, to build reading stamina and enjoyment.
- Reading corners in kindergarten: young children have a reading corner in their classroom where they choose and enjoy a favourite story.
- Projects and research: older students use reference books, magazines and computers for project work.
- Language & Literature Club: debates, book talks, writing and public-speaking activities draw on the library's collection.

Why it matters
Children who read widely write better, understand more in every subject and think more independently. A strong library, combined with time set aside to read, is one of the simplest and most effective things a school can offer.
