Robotics & AI at Dr. SSNPS

At Dr. SSNPS, robotics is a structured part of the curriculum rather than an occasional workshop. Children start by building simple models in the primary years and progress, level by level, to programming sensors and microcontrollers in the senior classes. Classes take place in the school's dedicated Robotics & AI lab.

How the programme is structured

Each level builds the skills needed for the next, so children grow from hands-on building to real programming.

Level Grades What students do
Foundation 1–4 Build models and explore basic mechanical ideas such as motion, structure and energy through play
Beginner 5–6 Build pre-designed models with gears, wheels and motors, and study how real-world machines work
Pre-Advanced 7–8 Build models with sensors and motors, connect them to a computer and control them with visual programming; try simple game modification through code
Advanced 8 and above Program with block-based Java and simulators; learn microcontroller basics and test code on working models
Expert 9 and above Advanced robotics in Robot C, a C-based language: design thinking, prototyping, problem-solving and debugging

Beyond robotics

Students are also introduced to wider technology topics, including:

  • App development: a level-wise course in building simple apps
  • Cyber security and ethics: online safety, responsible behaviour, digital laws and ethical practice
  • Artificial intelligence and machine learning, the Internet of Things, cloud computing and space studies: introduced through the school's technology education strand

The Robotics & AI lab

The lab gives students space to build, test and rebuild. Students work in small teams at stations with computers and robotics kits, so every child handles the equipment rather than watching a demonstration. The lab sits alongside three Computer Science labs, which are used for programming and ICT lessons.

Fees

Robotics & AI is a regular part of the programme, charged at a nominal fee in addition to the annual school fee. See the fee structure or ask the school office for the current Robotics & AI fee.

Why robotics at school matters

Robotics brings mathematics, science and logic together in one task. A robot that does not move as planned teaches patience, careful thinking and teamwork far better than a textbook exercise. Those habits carry into every other subject.

Frequently asked questions

From which class does robotics start?

The Foundation level begins in Grade 1.

Is robotics compulsory?

Robotics & AI is part of the school's programme for all students and carries a nominal additional fee.

What programming do older students learn?

Students in Grade 8 and above use block-based Java and simulators. From Grade 9, students can move to Robot C, a C-based language used in robotics.
