How to Choose a CBSE School in Davangere: A Parent's Checklist
"Which is the best school in Davangere?" is one of the most common questions parents ask. The honest answer is that the best school is the one that suits your child, your family's routine and your budget, and that is open about the facts. This checklist gives you ten things you can check yourself for any school before you decide.
1. Confirm the school's CBSE affiliation
Every CBSE school has an affiliation number. You can look it up on CBSE's official portal, SARAS (saras.cbse.gov.in), by number, name or district. Check:
- that the school's name and address match the campus you visited
- the status, which shows the level up to which the school is affiliated
- the affiliation period, which shows the dates the affiliation is valid
A school's affiliation number should be easy to find on its website. If a school cannot give you its number, ask why.
2. Read the Mandatory Public Disclosure
CBSE requires every affiliated school to publish a Mandatory Public Disclosure on its website. It lists the affiliation details, principal, fee structure, academic calendar, staff numbers, infrastructure and safety certificates. Look for a complete, up-to-date page, not one with blank fields.
3. Ask for the full fee picture
Ask for the annual fee in writing, and ask what it includes. Typical extras are books, stationery, uniform, transport and optional activities. Ask how fees are paid through the year. A school that publishes its fee structure openly makes comparison easier.

4. Look at class size and attention
Ask how many students are in a class, how classes are divided, and how teachers support children who need more time or more challenge.
5. Understand how children are assessed
Ask how often children are tested, how results are shared, and whether the school ranks children against each other or reports each child's own progress. Ask to see a sample progress card.

6. Ask how you will be kept informed
Will you receive regular updates? How quickly are test results shared? How easily can you meet teachers? Good communication matters more than any single facility.
7. Visit the facilities that matter to your child
A library that children actually use, working science and computer labs, safe play areas for young children, and space for sport, music and art all make a real difference. Ask how often each class uses them.

8. Check safety and health care
Ask about CCTV and entry control, fire safety, whether a nurse is on campus, and whether there is a counsellor. Ask to see the school's child-protection and safeguarding policy.
9. Work out the daily journey
For a day school, the journey shapes your child's day. Check the school timings, whether a bus serves your area, the pick-up time and the transport fee.

10. Think about continuity
Changing schools is hard on children. If you are choosing for LKG or Grade 1, consider whether the school continues to the classes your child will need later.
A note on "best school" lists
Online lists of "top 10 schools" are often compiled by directories or advertisers and rarely explain their criteria. Use them to find names, then do the checks above yourself.
