Music, Dance and Art at Dr. SSNPS

The arts are part of the timetable at Dr. SSNPS, not something squeezed in after school. Music, dance and art each have dedicated rooms, trained teachers and clubs, and students regularly perform and exhibit for the school and the community.

Music

Students learn to sing and play, and those who want more join the Music Club. Under the guidance of music teachers, they prepare for performances and competitions at different levels, building focus, listening and the ability to work in time with others. Separate music rooms for primary and secondary students mean each age group has suitable space and instruments.

Dance

Dance teachers help students express themselves through movement while building confidence, teamwork and the ability to improvise. The Dance Club prepares students for school events, inter-school festivals and competitions.

Art

Two art rooms give students space for drawing, painting and craft. The Art Club encourages students to exhibit their work and organises exhibitions in school, and art is also brought into other subjects through art-integrated lessons.

Theatre

The Theatre Club helps students build confidence and manage stress through drama. Students learn the navarasa, the nine emotions of Indian performance traditions, and use them in their acting.

Classical arts on campus: SPIC MACAY

Through its association with SPIC MACAY, the school hosts concerts by classical musicians and dancers on campus. Students have watched performances of Koodiyattam, Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, Carnatic instrumental music and Hindustani flute, followed by question-and-answer sessions with the artists.
